Theatres of Goa

Note* The dramas down here are pre dominantly performed in Konkani Language.
Konkani language is a macro language spoken widely in the Konkan Coast of India.
Tiatr
The most well known Konkani dramas in the world. Tiatr consist of six to seven parts, tiatr is based on family life, political affairs, love-sorrow, land lords and tenants etc. the first song on the stage is the introductory of the Tiatr's main story, wherein the audience comes to know the outline of the story. The Tiatr has to be set up in such a way that the audience are interested to know the further part of the story as it proceeds. Between the story, the comedians play a major role, in giving people laughter dose. After every part, one or two songs entertains the audience as well as offers time to the Tiatrists for dressing and stage setting

Zaggor
Zaggor is performed by two forms, one is popular among the Christian Gawda and the other by Pernni community. The Christian Gawda Zaggor derives theme of village life, stories of by gone rulers like Muslim and Portuguese, with songs. It reflects a spontaneous outburst of folk creativity . The males plays both the gender characters as women are not allowed to perform. The Characters performed commonly are:
(1)The main characters are paarpati, Havalaldar, they dance on wooden stut about 2 feet high, which is tightened to his leg by cloth rope. They dance with sword in one hand and kerchief in the other hand, The dancer's balace themselves perfectly.
(2)Another character is Garaasher (eve teaser), they hold a head gear made of bamboo on their head, decorated with coloured paper flowers, as the dance proceeds two young European girls come in and the Garaasher teases them, the girls call their brothers and the brothers threaten the Garaasher.
The pernni community derives theme of the origin of the universe. The Perni dance has adancing style of foot work and hand gesture.

Khell Tiatr
This form of theatre distinguish from Tiatr. The Khell Tiatr is without any interval, this khell tiatrs are held in open without any formal stage settings. The Khell Tiatr is heavily dependent on songs and background music. the songs are sang in many times, the actors tend to dialogue with each other through songs which are rhymic with poetic forms. it also includes comedy in it. The Khell Tiatr like the Tiatr also include musical bands. The Khell Tiatrs are dominantly performed in Salcete Taluka, which has a historic mark with this form of drama.
